Salty Tart – Best Desserts!

Standard

This one belongs on our Best Of the Twin Cities List.

My friend Stacy was visiting a couple of weekends ago. Before her arrival, she looked at my Restaurant Wishlist on the bottom of my Restaurant Impressions page to choose a restaurant where we could dine. Although, she admitted, she was really intrigued by my post on The Rabbit Hole. She had her eye on Manny’s Tortas, too. Rob suggested that we go to the Midtown Global Market and split a torta as an app and follow that up with The Rabbit Hole!

Genius!

The idea was a grand one, because we could spend our time exploring the market, too. If you’ve never been, Midtown Global Market in Minneapolis, it’s great place to get a taste of several cultures in one location. Plus, I know how much Stacy loves Asian cuisine.

For the record, she liked the Rice Rice Baby at The Rabbit Hole so much that she got an order to go to take back with her to Rochester the next day. YES, it’s that good. Like I said, it’s the best food you’ve never had. And the ingredients are so foreign to me that I don’t even know how to describe the flavors.

Still… Stacy and I have this tradition that whenever we dine out together, we pick up dessert somewhere afterward. Then we bring it home for later in the evening while we chat the night away, just catching up.

A Surly Chocolate Cupcake caught my eye when we passed by the Salty Tart in the Midtown Global Market. Surely these cupcakes were made with our local Surly beer! My dessert choice was clear! But as I was about to have them boxed up at the register, these caught my eye, too.

I had to get them both.

I decided that it was the night for the Chocolate Salted Caramel Tart. The Salty Tart employee advised that I bring the cooler-kept tart to room temperature before enjoying.

It was time!
IMG_6672This is probably one of the best, most insane desserts I’ve ever had!

From the crust to the over-the-top caramel-y interior to the chocolaty goodness. I will be stopping at the Salty Tart every single time I go to the Midtown Global Market in search of one of these… forever and ever amen. Maybe they’ll even take an advance order? !

For the record {my new favorite phrase, apparently}, the Surly Cupcake was absolutely moist and delicious for breakfast the next day, too. So I’d get one again if they are all out of Chocolate Salted Caramel Tarts. But the tarts still win!

What’s the best dessert you’ve ever had?

Do you prefer chocolate desserts or something else?

Cheers~

  1. OMG, that looks insulin worthy! That’s basically the only time I order dessert at a restaurant – is when they bring the dessert tray to the table. At one restaurant I worked at they had a salted caramel gelato with caramel corn popcorn on top – sweet/salty/savory – so good!
