Scusi, I’ll take the formaggi. {Closed}

One Sunday, we decided to use our last Groupon to Scusi in St. Paul on a couple glasses of wine and a cheese plate. While I have no photos of this evening, I will tell you that we chose the following formaggi: triple cream brie, gorgonzola dolce, and pecorino. While all of the cheeses were delectable, our favorite was the triple cream brie. I was surprised by this because Rob has never liked brie! I begged him to try the triple cream style… and it won him over.

And unlike our previous experiences, our bottle of Valipolicella we ordered was the right temperature.

Our formaggi selections included a choice of: tomato jam, ginger chutney, apple shallot compote, giardinara, fridge pickles, roasted garlic cloves, or red wine rattafia. Normally, I would just choose the roasted garlic cloves. No-brainer, right? But before I opened my mouth, the bartender {yes, we enjoyed our cheese plate at the bar} recommended the tomato jam. Now, you may or may not know that I have an undying love for tomatoes, but I always thought tomato jam sounded gross. I am not a huge fan of ketchup {I rarely eat it with fries} and I don’t like barbecue sauce {which is often made with ketchup}. We were also served some smoked tomato ketchup once that I found completely disgusting. I don’t know why, but I think that is what I was expecting. Still, we took her up on the offer and boy, are we glad we did! It had a delicate spice to it, with a hint of sweetness. We were in love with it!

Where is your favorite place to order a cheese plate and why?

While Scusi’s was excellent, I’ll have to wait to tell you my favorite cheese plate restaurant in the Twin Cities for when my friend Stacy. 😉
