Baking Cookies

Standard

Yesterday, I mentioned how I’ve been craving baked goods and sugar. I wholly contribute this to the sugar that I’ve been eating lately. You crave what you eat. I need to get this out of my system and break the cycle. Today was a test – one that included baking cookies.

Breakfast

First I ate breakfast:

Blueberries and Blackberries with a Greek yogurt and a 1/4 tsp sugar

Blueberries and Blackberries with a Greek yogurt and a 1/4 tsp sugar

Then it was time to bake some cookies.

The night before, I found a box of Lazy Baker Oatmeal Cranberry Cookie Mix I received in my Goodies box back in November. I don’t bake, if only for the reason that it’s food that I can’t keep in the house. But I was sure I wanted to make these, especially since all I had to do was add butter and an egg. {Talk about being a Lazy Baker!} And because Oatmeal Cranberry didn’t sound that exciting, I threw in some chocolate chips, too.

After I formed the dough balls on the pan, I ate some of the leftover cookie dough. After ten minutes, I had to check to see if the cookies were done. Well, the piece I took made half of a cookie fall apart, so I just had to eat that one cookie and put the rest in the oven for a couple of minutes more.

After the cookies came out, I put them on a rack to let them cool:

This was going to be a test. A test that I wouldn’t just keep eating all of the cookies. I started walking around the house, and soon talked into the house that I should have just one more cookie, because cookies always taste best warm. And so I had one more small cookie. Then I left the rest to cool and walked away.

Essentially, I ate about three cookies. I told myself that I would let them cool and then put them in a container for Rob to take to work.

Lunch

My Lunch included my leftover momo from the previous night’s Nha Sang takeout and a salad I created myself:

MOm

Momo with spicy sauce and salad made with spinach, clementine sections, cucumber, blue cheese crumbles, scallions, chopped almonds and a drizzle of reduced balsamic vinegar

I was right. It was worth it to save those momo to enjoy the flavors another day rather than eat them all in one sitting. Also, this salad was so good that I’m going to eat it again today. It was better than I ever expected it to be!

Dessert

As I was putting them away into the tupperware container, I allowed myself just one more cookie and then put them up on top of the fridge. Out of sight, right?

Dove Almond Dark Chocolate

A cup of my favorite tea – Market Spice

Market Spice

Afternoon Snacks

Clementine & Pineapple chunks

When my Love with Food box arrived, I took a couple of low-cal treats out to try:

  • Wild Berry Flat Fruit
  • Dark Chocolate Fortune Cookie

{More on the rest of the box on Saturday!}

Dinner

My friend Jen, brought over some Panera! It has been sooooo long since I have been there. She brought two sandwiches and we split them in half so that we could try a bit of each: Tomato Mozzarella Panini and the Roasted Turkey Artichoke. They were both so good and I’d get either of them again. I enjoyed them with a Garden Vegetable with Pesto Soup and a hunk of bread for dipping. I failed to take photos, but this was the perfect dinner. Having the company was even better. Thank you, Jen!

Later, Jen and I split a brownie square. We both agreed that it was not a brownie either of us would go back for, but we had no trouble finishing it!

All told at the end of the day, I had four cookies and the rest are either in Rob’s tummy or on the way with him to work!

Do you bake?

If so, what is your favorite thing to bake and why?

Cheers~
Carrie

  1. I’m with you, so not a baker. I do occasionally make bread or homemade pretzels but, that is about it. I made birthday cakes for my son growing up too but, that is out of the box…lol!! Your salad sounds delish!!
